Tungsten Oxide Nanopowder Applied for Near-infrared Shielding Material

Tungsten oxide nanopowder, which may he used for producing near-infrared shielding material, has a certain photocatalytic performance, however, its photocatalytic activity is not high. Therefore, it is necessary to find a method to enhance the photocatalytic activity of tungsten oxide. Four kinds of metal load tungsten trioxides were studied, including Rh/WO3, Pt/WO3, Au/WO3 and Ag/WO3. It was found that the photocatalytic activities of these four metal load tungsten trioxides were higher than those of unloaded tungsten trioxide. In addition, the study also found that both Au/WO3 and Ag/WO3 have good photocatalytic activity. This is mainly because the load metal not only promotes the separation of the photo-generated carriers of the semiconductor, but also has a surface plasmon resonance effect. The metal particles absorb visible light, inject activating electrons into the semiconductor through a plasma effect and undergo a reduction reaction.
