Nano grain size yellow tungsten oxide may be used in the production of thermal insulation coating so that it may be applied in building glass or automotive glass. Such transparent heat-insulating coating is thin with high hardness and good toughness. Also, it has good adhesion to the glass substrate without hollow drum and joints. Besides, it has the characteristics of easy construction, long service life and high economic benefit. And therefore, there will be a potential market for yellow tungsten oxide. The use of yellow tungsten oxide on heat insulation coating reflects its photochromic property.
The gaschromic property is also an important property of yellow tungsten oxide. A Pd-doped yellow tungsten oxide nanoporous film may be prepared by a combination of sol-gel method and pull-out coating method using tungsten powder as raw material. The in-situ dynamic test of the transmittance of the film with time was performed by an ultraviolet-visible-near-infrared spectrophotometer to analyze the effect of water on the gaschromic property. The results showed: The generated water escaped and adsorbed on the surface of the film, hindering gas diffusion and reacting with the catalyst; The other gases contained in the adsorption water of environment were toxic to the film; A certain amount of structural water facilitated the diffusion of H+ in the film, which facilitates rapid coloration of film.
