N-propanol inducer has a great influence on the structure, morphology and properties of the synthesized yellow tungsten oxide powder. The products are hexagonal structures whatever they are added with n-propanol or not. But, compared with yellow tungsten oxide product without adding n-propanol, the n-propanol induced yellow tungsten oxide is composed of nanorod-integrated sea urchin-like microspheres. The length of nanorods is 500~100nm, the diameter is 50~100nm and the aspect ratio is about 10. This structure improves the quantum size effect of the material, increases the specific surface area of yellow tungsten oxide, increases the number of protons generated by laser, and significantly improves the transmission of photogenerated protons. Thus, the n-propanol induced yellow tungsten oxide has better photochromic properties than the yellow tungsten oxide powder synthesized without adding n-propanol.
